IMPORTANT PRACTICE CHANGES


June 2018


  


We would like to welcome back Dr C Phillips from maternity leave.


 


Dr Phillips will be working 5 sessions, which for June will be usually on a Wednesday morning, all day Thursday and Friday.  You will be able to pre-book appointments from the 11th June 2018.


 


Dr James Thompson will continue to work two sessions on a Monday, alongside Dr Jurgita, who will also work other sessions over the week normally on a Tuesday and Friday.


 


Dr J Mandhar will work 5 sessions usually all day on Tuesday and Wednesday and a Friday morning.


 


Rachel Brown the Nurse Practitioner will work when available on a Thursday.


 


We will still run open surgeries each day to primarily see urgent problems.  The open surgeries will be run by the duty GP or Nurse Practitioner; both are able to deal with most acute problems and can issue prescriptions.

Sickness Certificates

You do not require a doctor's sickness certificate for any illness lasting seven days or less. Your employer may however require you to complete a self-certification form (SC2) which is available from your employer or on the HMRC website.

Evidence that you are sick

Sickness CertificatesIf you are sick for more than seven days, your employer can ask you to give them some form of medical evidence to support payment of SSP (statutory sick pay).

It is up to your employer to decide whether you are incapable of work. A medical certificate, now called a 'Statement of Fitness for Work’ (see below) from your doctor is strong evidence that you are sick and would normally be accepted, unless there is evidence to prove otherwise.

You could also provide evidence from someone who is not a medical practitioner, e.g. a dentist. Your employer will decide whether or not this evidence is acceptable. If your employer has any doubts, they may still ask for a medical certificate from your GP.

Statement of Fitness for Work - ’Fit Note'

The 'fit note' was introduced on 6 April 2010. With your employer's support, the note will help you return to work sooner by providing more information about the effects of your illness or injury.

Mandatory Collection of eMED3

This data is being collected on behalf of the Department for Work and Pensions in order to:

  • Undertake research analysis to inform policy relating to employment and sickness absence, including evaluation of the Fit for Work programme.
  • Help identify geographic level differences in return to work so that national and local providers can respond to provide appropriate services.

The data collected is anonymised data, including information such as: the type and duration of the fit note; recommendations for adjustments to enable a return to work; diagnostic codes; geographic area and gender.

The collection will be made using the services of the four main primary care principal clinical system suppliers, under the General Practice Systems of Choice framework contract.  The data collected will be published on the HSCIC iView portal on a quarterly basis starting in April 2016.

Under the Health and Social Care Act 2012, Section 259, the HSCIC has the authority to collect data from public bodies such as GPs, hospitals and adult social care services.  HSCIC has issued a Section 259 notice to collect this data.  This means that general practices are legally obliged to provide this information.
